16TH C. N. EUROPEAN DOUBLE HANDLED LANDSKNECHT. This is a massive original 16th century Landsknecht sword (bearing or great sword) from northern Europe. The hilt is iron with a 3" pommel, and a 9" leather wrapped handle. The cross guard is straight, with decorative tassels at the ends, spanning 13" across and has a 9" leather wrapped ricasso. Complete with a double edged blade, 2" across and tapering at the tip. The blade has good edges with some overall tarnish and pitting with very light signs of rusting, the leather on the ricasso and handle has some loss and aged wear; the pommel and hilt are in very good condition with some light pitting and surface tarnish. 63"W x 13"H.
