A Large Carved "Longquan" Celadon-Glazed Charger, Ming Dynasty

the dish is superbly potted with wide flaring sides rising from a flat base, the interior finely carved with a dense diaper pattern within a medallion, encircled by scrolling lotus and peony sprays around the cavetto, all under an even translucent sea-green glaze pooling to a deeper tone in the recesses, the glaze continues over the neatly finished rim, the base revealing the characteristic grayish body of the Longquan kilns, this type of large charger exemplifies the refined celadon wares produced at Longquan during the Ming dynasty, valued both for its subtle tone and for the balance between form and decoration
