Over the years, the correct measurement of time has commanded increased importance in many aspects of the world. With the desire to achieve most accurate time, Hezekiah Conant of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, acted upon his brilliant invention idea. According to the E. Howard Clock Company logbook, this clock was ordered by Hezekiah Conant on April 3, 1888, and was delivered on November 30, 1888. Mr. Conant was a well-versed mechanical engineer and received a patent on August 23, 1887, for this escapement design that is comprised of four independently swinging mercury pendulums. This invention operates in such a manner that the second hand gives constantly the average time indicated by the group of escapements. With the design operating in this manner, it has demonstrated that it will lessen the errors to a remarkable degree, keeping time that is nearer to perfection than any instrument before.
