Description:

Antoine-Louis Barye (French, 1796-1875), Bronze Jaguar. The bronze sculpture depicts a walking jaguar having its mouth open and a curving tail, stands atop a stepped base; has dark green-black patina. Signed "Barye" on the base, circa 1840. Barye’s facility with sculpting the big cats is clearly evident in this rare circa 1840 model. Another cast is shown on page 228 of Pivar’s "The Barye Bronzes." Dimensions: 8 3/4 in. wide x 4 1/4 in. high. Weight: 3.55 lbs.
