Description:

Cast Iron Lion Hunter Mechanical Bank. Manufactured by J. & E. Stevens Company, Cromwell, Connecticut. c.1911. The hunter figure represents Theodore Roosevelt, well known for his interest in African safari hunting; he stands before a lion figure. When the coin is rested on the top of the barrel and the hammer slides back he turns his head down to look down the sights of the gun, when the leaf decorated lever in the base is pressed the lion rears back and the coin is fired at the lion and deflects into the base below the lion. Has been repainted with green & gilt base highlighted with flakes of mica; springs and mechanism are in good working condition with original base and trap door. 7.5 in. high x 10.5 in. long x 2.75 in. wide.
