Description:
Cavalry Sword, Germany. Maker A. & E. Holler a Solingen. Steel birds head pommel with back strap; fish skin covered grip with gilt/brass wire. Steel 4-branch guard, turn-down quillon (rear); swept hilt; side langets. Single-edged, curved blade with fuller. Heavily etched with military trophies (armor, flags, cannons, etc.) and maker's name. Steel scabbard with two carrying rings. Leather wrapping on grip shows wear; wires somewhat loose. Scabbard has light rust pitting. A. & E. Holler, mfr of swords, sidearms and bayonets, was in business at Solingen, 1840-66. Estimated Value$500 - 700.
