Description:

One woman sits on a globe wearing a long robe and a headdress with a star on her forehead; her left arm is stretched up and holds flowers. Seated below, leaning into her lap is another robed woman; the globe is being raised by high sea swells. On the front is a scripted tablet with an excerpt from a poem by Lamartine (roughly translated from French), it reads "Now under the heavens and everything is love. The undulating wave lies in the coral, the flower sleeps on its branch and even nature, itself under the canopy of the night, sleeps". Artist signed "E. Picault". Has very good form and proportions with a good medium brown patina. In excellent condition.
