This clock has a fantastic walnut case with burled trim and high quality carving, in excellent condition. The 14" vitrolite reverse painted glass dial is original and in good condition. It is signed "E. Howard & Co. Boston Mass". Typical outside chapter ring for minutes with Arabic 5 minute markers and a black minute marker chapter ring, small subsidiary hour dial with bold black Roman hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds bit with 10 second Arabic second markers and a black second chapter ring, each with period blued hands. The clock has a massive top quality brass movement signed "E. Howard & Co. Boston", Graham Dead Beat Escapement, beats seconds, Geneva stop and blued crutch. Solid brass pulley (#17), top quality brass weight, compensating "mercurial pendulum" (#157), all in very good condition. There appears to be a very light overcoat over the original finish. This clock was recently discovered in a private Florida home from descendants of a Plattsburg, N.Y. jeweler.
