Description:

Ferdinando Vicho Marble Venus Sculpture. The Lely Venus. After the original 2nd Century Hellenistic period statue; the figure depicts the Greek goddess Aphrodite (Roman goddess, Venus). In the scene the nude figure is bathing by the river, in a surprised moment she takes a crouching pose, as if in an attempt to cover herself; her head looks down to her right, her right arm is drawn across her body to cover her chest and her left arm rests on her knee with her hand shadowing over her lap, behind her foot is a scallop shell. The sculpture is masterfully executed and is in clean condition with no breaks, chips or cracks, repair to one finger. Plaque reads Ferdinando Vicho, xix-xx (c.1920). Carved in pure white Carrara marble; 21 in. high.
