Francois Backvis (1857-1926, Belgium) Oil on canvas carriage scene. This very energetic and life-like scene depicts a carriage wagon drawn by 3 horses; the horses are racing down a country road as they are being attached by a pack of wild dogs, the family is hidden under the domed canvas of the wagon as the fighting horse attempt to flee and fend off the dogs. Signed and dated lower left Francois Backvis 1883. This is one of the best paintings by this artist that we have seen and a very large size, it is in very good condition with few minor patches on the back with some inpainting.
