FRENCH AUTOMATON GOTHIC GILT BRONZE MANTLE CLOCK. Large gilt bronze case with fine detail of a tall gothic cathedral on a rocky ledge. The staggered stairs lead to a walkway with a long banister and a second set of stairs leading to arched double doors. 4 independent standing figures are shown on pedestals and shelves around the structure. The very fine bronze case shows lifelike detail in the stone building towers, arches and the scrolled moldings. The balcony has 3 tall steeples and a watch tower to the left, in the center of the balcony there are 2 animated figures striking a bell on the hour, 2 hammers strike a single bell. Matching numbers (802)on the movement and pendulum. The pendulum hangs on a suspension spring while the animation is driven thru a silk thread mechanism. 2.5"porcelain dial with black roman numerals.
