Infantry Non-Commissioned Officer Sword, France, model 1845, production Oct. 1914. Gilt brass phrygian pommel; brown horn grip with grooves; remnants of original gilt wire wrapping. Gilt brass pierced guard with floral, leaf and branch designs; single knuckle bow, pierced; stamped "JC" and "42199". Single-edged curved blade with two fullers and inscribed, "Manufacture nationale d'armes de Chatellerault Oc re 1914-Adj'f d'Infanterie Mle 1845 E" and on ricasso, "JC". Steel scabbard with carrying ring and inscribed, "42199" on throat band. Light pitting on scabbard. US Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword is patterned after this model. Estimated Value$250 - 350.
