Inscribed Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword W/ Paper. 31 in. double fuller, slightly curved blade is engraved with filigree and U.S. on one side and filigree and eagle over E. Pluribus Unum banner on the other; signed W. Clauberg over Solingen on the ricasso and Iron Proof in the back edge, has a nice silvered finish with some minor tarnish. The hilt has a fancy engraved and reticulated brass cross guard with d-shaped hand guard and pommel, sharkskin and wire wrapped grip is nice and tight. Original leather sheath with tooled brass fittings and O-ring hangers, engraved shield on the top fitting reads John C. Robinson, 1817-1897, nominated for the Medal of Honor in 1866 for his action in 1864 near Spotsylvania Courthouse, VA where he lost his leg. Culminated his career as Union Army brigadier general of volunteers and brevet major general of volunteers in the Civil War. We have a small biographical portfolio on Mr. Robinson.
