Description:

Knights of St. John (Fraternal) Sword, model year 1860 (US Staff & Field Officer). Gilt brass urn-shaped pommel; bronze grip with gilt wire. Single gilt brass knuckle bow with floral decoration; turn-down guard with eagle and frog decorations. Double-edged straight blade with the maker's inscription "Chas. Svendsen Cincinnati, Ohio" and the figure "1". Nickeled scabbard with three gilt brass heavily decorated mounts and three carrying rings. Original pommel cap missing. Charles Svendsen was in business as manufacturer of regalia and military goods from 1878 to approximately 1901. Successor firm was The Charles Svendsen Co., 1905 - 15 (at 84 W. Court and 20 E. Court). Estimated Value$200 - 300.
