LORENZ AUSTRIAN 54 CALIBER RIFLED MUSKET. 37.5" - .54 caliber barrel. Barrel is stamped Carl Heiser, a private contractor who manufactured this rifle. Has special folding leaf near the sight with two windows graduated to 900 paces. All metal is a uniform brown with light surface pitting. Lock is marked with the number 862 indicating manufacture in 1862. Wood stock is in great condition and has a large K carved into it in front of the trigger guard. The south bought about 100,000 of these to equip the army of Tennessee. A very nice example. Estimated Value $800 - 1,200.
