Monumental English Carved Oak Tall Case Clock
with a pair of 3-foot-tall putti at the base flanking a central medallion of Sir William Whittington and a date of 1793, the main door with a 4-foot-tall carving of a young Whittington flanked by father time and lady justice, back panel with musical instruments, bonnet with full standing winged angels and a carved three-dimensional bust of Whittington at the crest. The dial with a silvered chapter ring, Arabic hour numerals, fancy pierced hands, sub-dials for Whittington/Cambridge chime on 8 bells, sub-dial with 7 songs on 12 bells, moon phase and 3 lower sub-calendar dials surrounded in pierced gilt brass filigree. The movement with a deadbeat escapement and four figural painted weights, one for the chime, one for the song/tune, one for time/calendar and one for the cathedral gong, movement and dial are both signed "Joshua Hampson Fecit 1743"
