Jean Phalibois Musical Automaton "The Monkey Conjuror". Wood an paper mache automaton with seated figure of a monkey magician wearing silk and velvet gypsy garments and seated at a table with table cloth and carved legs exposed; has a brass spring driven mechanism contained in the base which animates the monkeys arms to lift up and down displaying an ever-changing or disappearing object underneath the cups, while also bobbing and swiveling his head, blinking his eyes and moving his mouth. Also contained in the base is a brass cylinder 2 tune music box. Has a wire arch over the figure decorated with flowers and filigree. Signed with impressed stamp in an oval underneath the wood platform "J. Phalibois, a Paris"; each part is in working condition, overall very nice an original with original glass dome. 27.5" high x 19" wide x 9.5" deep. Weight: 15.5 lbs.
