Pittsfield Elm Staffordshire Plate. Historical plate in blue and white with a winter scene of the famous "Pittsfield Elm" in Pittsfield, Mass; the tree is surrounded by a fence which was built in 1820 with known structures in the background including the First Congregational Church (center), Town Hall (right) and the Berkshire Hotel (far left). The protected tree was struck by lightning in 1861; plate has a decorative border with 3 panels of the church surrounded by a flowering design. Signed in the reverse with mark for James & Ralph Clews and stamp with the title of the plate. 8 in. high.
