Description:

Pr. Japanese Porcelain French Moderator Lamps. A baluster form with elephant head handles on the sides, metallic brown background with carved geometric panels and a glossy green center border carved with deep blue figural bird oval panels. Has French brass 20th century hardware with lions heads on the feet and filigree at the top. In very good condition with no breaks, cracks, chips or repairs to the porcelain, bases signed with 4 character mark for Kawamoto Hansuke V (also Kawamoto Masukichi I, 1832-1918, Seto, Japan). These bases were imported into France where the brass fittings and moderator hardware was adapted for use as lamps (which was very common during this time). Height of porcelain is 11.5 in., overall height is 34 in. to the finial.
