Description:

MONUMENTAL FRENCH FIGURAL BRONZE MANTLE CLOCK. Massive 2 color bronze case is mounted with a detailed figure of Aristotle. In his right hand he holds a pen and his left arm rests on a short pedestal holding a scroll, which reads "Le Bonheur Naii De La Vertu" meaning "Happiness is Born of the Virtues". The surrounding scene shows leave and berry clusters in a nice dark patina. The base has a matching patina with large gilt mounts of flowers, grapevine clusters and oversized claw feet. The time and bell strike movement is signed Rango Freres, Paris. A decorative 5.5"silvered dial has applied gilt roman numerals. 29"W x 26.5"H x 10.5"D. Estimated Value $6,000 - 8,000.
