UNITED STATES MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT JOHN COOK (BUGLER) TINTYPE. A wonderful tintype of a young John Cook, bugle held in one hand and sword in the other with a U.S. fort camp backdrop. John Cook was born Aug. 16, 1847. He enlisted as a bugler at age 14 and was assigned to battery B, 4th U.S. Artillery. At the battle of Antietam, Cook impulsively took on the roll of cannoneer/gunner when the fort was almost taken over by the Confederates. John Cook served throughout the whole Civil War, was in 33 battles (including Gettysburg) was and wounded several times. He was presented with The Medal of Honor on June 30th, 1894. He died on August 3rd, 1915 and was buried in Section 17 of the Arlington National Cemetery, beside his wife. Numerous flaking and some scratching to the surface. 3.25"W x 4.25"H.
