US Cavalry Officer Saber, Germany, model 1840 ("Old Wristbreaker"). Gilt brass phrygian head pommel; rayskin grip with gilt wires; decorated with spray of oak leaves. Gilt brass three0branch knuckle guard decorated on two lower branches with floral and oak leaf spray, also on end of quillon. Single-edged curved blade with two fullers and inscription "James P. Fitch 19 John Street New York" and "PDL". Browned steel scabbard with two carrying rings. Blade decorated with floral decor, "US", eagle with motto "E Pluribus unum". Estimated Value$1,000 - 1,500.
