Wehrle Black Forest Trumpeter Cuckoo Clock. 8.5 in. carved wood dial with applied Roman hour numerals, pierced filigree carved bone hands; pierced brass weight driven movement has an hour strike on a coiled gong and 7 trumpet mechanism having large bellows on top of the movement, bellows play on a large cylinder and a pair of figural carved wood trumpeting figures appear from the double doors in the front of the case below the dial, has typical acorns style weights. In a black forest carved architectural style case with eagle * shield carving under the cornice, "E. Pluribus Unum" banner, pierced carved side doors, pierced carved lower bracket and carved chain link & banister fence around the base. In nice condition and original finish, running, striking and trumpeter mechanism plays. Ref: "Rare and Unusual Black Forest Clocks" by Justin J. Miller, clock by Emilian Wehrle & Co. c1890. Missing pendulum bob. Measures: 35.75 in. high x 20.5 in. wide x 13.25 in. deep. Weight: 54 lbs.
