J.C. Brown Acorn Shelf Clock. 5.5 in. dia. painted metal dial with black Roman hour numerals, good period hands and pained rose highlights; brass 8 day spring driven movement signed “Forestville Mfg. Co., Bristol, CT, USA” has fancy pierced decorated lyre front plate, hour strike on a coiled gong, powered by block mounted double detached fusee springs in the bottom of the case, has a brass covered pendulum bob. In an excellent and rare J.C. Brown rosewood, pine and walnut laminated case with acorn shaped top, laminated side arms with acorn finials, original reverse painted lower tablet with flowers and filigree, upper glass with green and gilt border; signed on a paper label in the back of the case for “J.C. Brown, Bristol, Conn.”. Case is refinished, has some chipping along the base, original upper glass is repainted, dial is repainted, a metal plate has been mounted to the back of the case supporting the base; the movement is in good running condition and striking. 25 in. high x 15 in. wide x 5.25 in. deep. Weight: 9 lbs.
